PRACTICE AND EMPLOYMENT OF STUDENTS

POSSIBILITIES OF TRAINING AND PRODUCTION PRACTICE RELEVANT PRACTICE BASES.

In accordance with the “provision on the organization of the educational process at Sumy State University” (put into effect by the order of the rector №0452-I of June 22, 2016), practical training of higher education applicants is carried out by passing their practice at the enterprises of institutions and organizations and in the structural units of the university according to the curriculum. 

There are three types of practice plans at the Law Institute:

  • educational (after 2 courses of Bachelor’s degree);
  • production (on the 4th year of the bachelor’s degree);
  • undergraduate (2 year Master’s degree);

EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE

The teaching practice of students of the Sumy State University Law School is an important part of the educational process. During the training, students not only consolidate and deepen the theoretical knowledge gained in the study of general and special legal disciplines, but also acquire the skills and law enforcement practice. During the training period, the student becomes a participant in the practice of applying the rules of law, observes and analyzes the various aspects of the activity of legal practitioners, learns to perform actions related to the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of individuals and legal entities.

The purpose of students’ educational practice is:

  • consolidation of theoretical knowledge gained by students in the study of the theory of state and law, constitutional, administrative law and other branches of law;
  • development of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

The purpose of educational practice is achieved through the following tasks:

  • consolidation and deepening of theoretical knowledge gained by students in the process of learning;
  • ability to creatively apply acquired knowledge in legal, judicial and law enforcement, civil law and other legal activities;
  • acquainting students with the structure and functional and organizational peculiarities of the activity of local self-government bodies, local state administrations, judicial and law enforcement bodies, legal services of enterprises, institutions and organizations by solving their tasks in the above forms and defined methods;
  • a holistic vision, observation and analysis of the activities of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies, economic entities, etc. (if possible to visit them);
  • development of practical skills of preparation, maintenance and storage of procedural documentation;
  • promoting students’ ability to analyze situations that require the application of the rules of law, give them a legal assessment and make decisions in accordance with the rules of legislation;
  • acquaintance with the organization of record keeping, departmental orders and instructions on organization of activity of local self-government bodies, judicial and law enforcement bodies and legal services of enterprises and organizations (if possible to visit them);
  • adaptation of students to the duties of officials, formation of legal culture and professional ethics of the lawyer;
  • awareness of the need for students of law faculty to gain practical experience in the field of law enforcement and other legal activities for more effective further education.

The teaching practice is conducted on the basis of the Sumy State University Law Clinic, the Scientific Advisory Center for Legal Research and the Anticor Center of the Law Scientific Research Institute.

INTERNSHIP

Manufacturing practice is an indispensable part of professional training and an integral part of the educational process in higher education. It aims to provide students with theoretical knowledge and professional skills and skills, to adapt them to future specialty work.

The purpose of the practice is to acquire and deepen students’ theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as to familiarize them with the structure and activity of the judicial and law enforcement bodies, legal services, state authorities and local self-government, enterprises and organizations, attorneys, notaries, study the legislation of Ukraine which regulates them activities, acquaintance with documentation that mediates the professional activity of a lawyer.

According to the stated purpose, the immediate tasks of production practice are:

  • consolidation and practical use of the acquired knowledge in professional disciplines;
  • familiarization with the structure of judicial and law enforcement bodies, legal services, state and local authorities, enterprises and organizations, lawyers, notaries;
  • getting acquainted with the peculiarities of functioning of the mentioned bodies, institutions and their structural subdivisions, providing adequate legal services;
  • formation of professional identification of future lawyers and their professional identity;
  • mastering the technology of making and implementing legally significant decisions;
  • gaining experience in performing professional duties, fostering a sense of personal responsibility;
  • development of analytical skills of students on the basis of experience of direct practical work;

Practice ensures the continuity and consistency of obtaining the required amount of practical knowledge that corresponds to a bachelor’s degree in law.

In carrying out the tasks of the practice, students should show a creative, systematic approach to the analysis and evaluation of the status of the organization of legal work in the enterprise, the implementation of law enforcement activities, to formulate proposals for its further improvement. Manufacturing practice provides students with the opportunity to acquire practical skills in their chosen profession, to adapt to the production environment and, thus, to prepare for further professional activity.

The practice is carried out in the courts and law enforcement, public authorities and local self-government, in the enterprises of different forms of ownership that are relevant to the purpose of the practice. If possible, students can be referred to private notaries, attorneys, arbitrators, as appropriate conditions for the practice.

The choice of institution, enterprise or organization to complete the practice is made taking into account:

  • opportunities to organize a trainee’s workplace and provide qualified practice guidance from practitioners with practical experience;
  • the level of organization of legal work;
  • students’ research interests.

The place of practice is determined by the Departments of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Law, together with the relevant department of the University and taking into account the agreements between enterprises and Sumy State University. Students can independently (with the permission of the graduating department) choose for themselves the place of practice and offer it for distribution.

The division of students according to practice bases is carried out by the training department of practice and integration relations with the clients of staff and is approved by the order of the rector.

Memorandums on cooperation and cooperation with the Sumy District Administrative Court, the Territorial Administration of Justice in the Sumy region, the judicial administration and others have been signed with the purpose of effective practice.

PRE-DIPLOMA PRACTICE

The purpose of the practice is to acquire and deepen students’ theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as to familiarize them with the structure and activity of the judicial and law enforcement bodies, legal services, state authorities and local self-government, enterprises and organizations, attorneys, notaries, study the legislation of Ukraine which regulates them activities, acquaintance with documentation that mediates the professional activity of a lawyer.

In accordance with the stated goal, the immediate tasks of the undergraduate practice are:

  • consolidation and practical use of the acquired knowledge in professional disciplines;
  • familiarization with the structure of judicial and law enforcement bodies, legal services, state and local authorities, enterprises and organizations, lawyers, notaries;
  • getting acquainted with the peculiarities of functioning of the mentioned bodies, institutions and their structural subdivisions, providing adequate legal services;
  • formation of professional identification of future lawyers and their professional identity;
  • mastering the technology of making and implementing legally significant decisions;
  • accumulation of experience in performing professional duties, fostering a sense of personal responsibility;
  • development of analytical skills of students on the basis of experience of direct practical work;
  • accumulation of material for writing master’s qualification work.

Practice ensures the continuity and consistency of obtaining the necessary amount of practical knowledge that corresponds to the educational degree of Master of Specialty 081 “Law”.

In carrying out the tasks of the practice, students should show creative, systematic approach to the analysis and evaluation of the state of legal work in the enterprise, the implementation of enforcement activities and enforcement, to formulate proposals for their further improvement. Undergraduate practice provides students with the opportunity to acquire practical skills in their chosen profession, to adapt to the work environment and, thus, to prepare for further professional activity.

The practice is carried out in the courts and law enforcement, public authorities and local self-government, in the enterprises of different forms of ownership that are relevant to the purpose of the practice. If possible, students can be referred to private notaries, attorneys, arbitrators, as appropriate conditions for the practice.

The choice of institution, enterprise or organization to complete the practice is made taking into account:

  • the ability to organize the trainee’s workplace and provide qualified guidance to practitioners with the most experience;
  • the level of organization of legal work;
  • students’ research interests.

The place of practice is determined by the Departments of the Institute of Law together with the relevant department of the University and taking into account contracts between enterprises and Sumy State University. Students can independently (with the permission of the graduating department) choose for themselves the place of practice and offer it for use. It is desirable to determine a practice base in an institution or organization, the passage of a practice in which will facilitate the receipt of information materials on the topic of the master’s work.

The division of students according to the objects of practice is carried out by the training department of practice and integration relations with the clients of staff and approved by order of the rector.

Memorandums on cooperation and cooperation with the Sumy District Administrative Court, the Territorial Administration of Justice in the Sumy region, the judicial administration and others have been signed with the purpose of effective practice.
